Finding Books

1. Begin at the St. Joseph's College Libraries homepage.

2. Click on either St. Joseph's College Catalog.

3. The basic search screen appears below. Enter the search term in the "search for" box. To enter a phrase, enclose the phrase in quotes. For title search omit "a", "an", "the" from the beginning of the title. To search for books by an author or about a person, enter the persons last name first. To find information about a person or criticisms of an author use a subject search.

4. Please note that the catalog searches both the Brooklyn and Patchogue campuses. You may use "keyword limits" to limit the search to a specific campus.

5. Select the type of search from the "search by" menu. If not sure of the subject heading use a "keyword" search.

6. If desired, limits may be set from the menu on this page or by clicking on "set more limits."

7. Click the "search" button.

8. The results screen shows a list of titles with the call number and status. Notice the campus location is specified. Titles that have a designation of "multiple holding" will show each campus location on the full record.

9. Select a title to see the full record.

10. The correct subject heading appears under "subjects". Click on this to find additional titles. Note each campus location.

10. To search with multiple terms use "advanced search".

11. To expand a term use the "?" in the term as shown below. The example shown will search child and children.
